Good Neighbor and Friend. Obituary Alvey Smith was born in Hector, Tompkins county, New York, July 22, 1836. His parents soon after came to Michigan and settled in Washtenaw county where he spent his early life, living with his sister, Mrs. Maryette Snow, after the death of his parents. He married Miss Catherine Knapp October 20, 1863, at Eaton Rapids, Mich., and lived on a farm a few mils south of that place until they moved to Lake Odessa shortly after the town was started. He was the youngest of nine children, only one of whom survives him. To mourn his loss he leaves a son, Adelbert, of this place and a brother, William, of Eaton Rapids, together with many other relatives and friends who remember him kindly as relative and friend. Rev. Jones officiated at the funeral which was held from the Congregational church Wednesday at 2 o'clock. Interment was in Lakeside cemetery. Those present at the funeral from away were his brother William from Eaton Rapids also H.C. Knowlton, Charles Smith and James Williams of Eaton Rapids and Mr and Mr John Hogeboon of Mason an Mrs Maggie Sumner of Chelsea. The bereft son Adelbert especially has the very warmest sympathy from a host of friends here in this his hour of deep affliction. He has given his father the kindest of attention.
