She will be remembered and missed for her special way of expressing herself in an unfiltered manner. Mom lived simple living, farm life as she would refer to it; remembering her chickens and other livestock cared for during her life's journey. She loved gardening, canning, and cooking. The latter will be missed by those that were luck enough to partake in the enjoyment of consuming something she'd prepared; Her homemade cream pies, pizza, taco, goulash, creamed spaghetti, mashed potato fried cakes, Swiss steak, cake from scratch, and her so "yummy" potato salad. She taught painting lessons for over 40 years, coming into contact with so many people and main lifelong friends. Her primitive country paintings were sold at craft shops and shows she attended, as well as in her home. She also held basket weaving classed as she'd taken lessons and traveled miles to learn the craft from a Native American Indian. In her earlier yeas, she played the piano at church and for pleasure...mostly for pleasure as she loved music...and she sang with a group of girlfriends at different churches in her High school years. For those that became attached to her heart would come to refer to her as "Sassy"...lovingly, that she definitely was. Darlene is survived by her children, Vicki (Paul) Black,Sandra Brown,Michelle (Brian) Quinn, Cindy Brooke, Jerry (Kris) Binns, and her special friend Bill Hansen, and a multitude of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Nellie Durkee; her infant son, Douglas; her husband, Kenneth Smith; her brother, Larry Durkee, and several grandchildren. At this time there will be no services.
