            DEATH OF PIONEER

   Mike Smith, a pioneer of Woodland township, died at his home in Woodland Tuesday
morning at 8 o'clock, 
at the advanced age of 81 years.

   Funeral services were conducted at the German Lutheran church, in this village,
yesterday afternoon, with 
interment in Lakeside cemetery.

  The deceased leaves a widow, one son and four daughters, all residents of Woodland
township, to mourn his 
loss.

  The daughters are Mesdames Levy Degg, John Galleger and George Nethammer and a
maiden daughter 
living at the old home.  The son is Frank Smith, a well known rancher.
