SMITH

Winona Lee Smith, age 79, of Saranac,MI, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, 
November 10, 2021 following a recent injury.She was born on May 19, 1942, in 
Lansing, MI, the daughter of Bert and Harriet (Johnson) Fowler Sr. Winona 
married Charles R.Smith on April 11, 1977. He passed away in Detroit, Michigan, 
in 1983.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, sister Sue Stump, 
brother Bert Fowler Jr., and special cat, Precious.

In her younger years she enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Derby Lake. 
She loved animals and the pets she had while living on Ivan Road. She worked at 
Universal in Saranac for many years. She loved to travel, including driving to 
California, and many trips to Indiana with her mother to visit her cousins.She 
enjoyed playing Euchre in Saranac and at the Ionia Moose Lodge.She was on many 
bowling leagues (Winning trophies) and loved to play bingo.Some of her fondest 
memories included going to her high school class reunions. The last one she 
attended was in September and she enjoyed every minute.

She is survived by her sister,Karen Sipperley of Sunfield; cousins, Nancy and 
David Lewis of Indiana and June "Bug" Dzladula of Detroit; her special friends, 
Judy and Karl Doezema of Saranac and Connie and Brad Mulford of Ionia; 
neighbors, Mayeillieen Bartosh, Julie Smith, Jewell Smith, Ellen O'Brant, John 
Painter, Chester "Sam" Barer; Friday morning coffee time friends; and 
hairdresser,Jill Yaw.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Memorial contributions 
may be made to the Ionia County Animal Shelter, 3853 Sparrow Dr., Ionia, MI. 
48846. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.Arrangements in care
