LEWIS SMITH DIED FRIDAY

Lewis A. Smith, 69, passed away Friday at the Cook's Rest Home at Ionia where he 
had been a patient for about 1 1/2 years and had also spent several weeks at the 
University Hospital, Ann Arbor during hat time.

He spent his early years in Woodland and had been a resident of Portland for 33 
years where  he was a barber during that time. For several years he was at the 
shop at Hotel Divine, later purchasing is own business which he operated until 
retiring two years ago because of ill health.

His wife the former May Rairigh passed away July 1, 1936 ad a son Pfc.Max Smith 
died in November 1945 at Fitzsimmons Hospital, Denver, Colorado, from injuries 
received in service as he had been hospitalized in France and England from 
February 1945 until transferred to the States.

Surviving area a sister, Mrs.Henry(Ruth) Geiger of Lake Odessa; one brother 
Harry of Cato, New York, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with 
burial in Lakeside Cemetery.

This is the third brother of the Smith family to pass away within a four month 
period.Clarence passed away September 21 and Fred, December 26.
