February 8, 2023 Excerpts from Portland Online Obituary LOIS LORRAINE (VANAMBURG) SMITH Died Tuesday,February 7, 2023-age 87 of Crystal Born June 29, 1935, daughter of Clarence and Clela VanAmburg. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother. Worked in Portland Elementary schools in the lunch program. Lived most of her life in Portland. The last two years she lived in Crystal near her 4 daughters. Lois was a woman of great Faith whose generosity & service blessed all. Preceded in death by her husband Allen Smith; son-in-law, Gus Pline; parents & siblings, Elaine Thrasher, Georgia Haines, Arleta Reddin, Doris Babbitt and Don VanAmburg. Survived by daughters,Cindy (Ken) Lawless,Robin Pline, Terri (Douglas) Hill, and Janice (Matthew) Newman; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Carolyn (Smith) Cross. Memorial service will be conducted Tuesday,11:00 AM, February 14, 2023 at Portland Mt.Hope Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Monday, Feb. 13, 2023 at the Lehman Funeral Home, Portland & 1 hour prior to service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Freedom Acres School or the Portland Athletic Association in Lois's memory.
