Smith, 68, of Lake Odessa, died Sunday in Sun City, Arizona. He was born December 20, 1916, the son of David & Mabel Perkins Smith. He lived in Lake Odessa most of his life. He graduated from Lake Odessa High School & Michigan State University in 1938. He was a member of Sigma Nu Faternity, Excalibur & the Varsity Club. He married Benita Core on December 31, 1938 in Lansing. He served as Major in the European Theatre during WWII. From 1946 to 1981 he was president of Smith Brothers and Velte elevators. During those years he was involved & served as president of various trade associations & was active in local politics & community activities. In 1973 he was named Outstanding Alumni of MSU. Surviving are his wife; his children, Terin Singer of Los Angeles, Bonita Mott of Seattle, Lawrence of Lake ODessa, David of Sunfield, & William of New York City; six grandchildren; two brothers, David of Lake Odessa & George of Central Lake; one sister, Marilyn McKinley of Portage. Cremation has taken place. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m Saturday at St.Edwards Church in Lake Odessa, with Father Dennis Morrow officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to E.B.I.
