The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, February 21, 1966
Death came Monday morning to Mrs. Lulu Benedict Smith, 88, of 330 Harter 
Street, lifelong resident of Ionia vicinity.  She died at Ionia Manor 
following a two year illness.  Mrs. Smith was an employee of register of deeds 
and judge of probate offices of Ionia county several years.  

She was born in Berlin township September 12, 1877, daughter of Abel and 
Harriet LeValley Benedict, and attended Benedict school and Lansing Business 
university.  Her husband, Herbert Smith, to whom she was married September 8, 
1938, died in August 1959.  Mrs. Smith was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist 
church.

Surviving are a sister, Hattie Benedict; two brothers, Ira L. benedict of 
Glendale, California, and Dr. L. D. Benedict of Ionia; also several nieces and 
nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at Myers funeral 
home with the Rev. Clifford Owens officiating.  Burial will be at Balcom 
cemetery.  A memorial for Lincoln Avenue Baptist church has been established 
for Mrs. Smith.  Contributions will be accepted at the funeral home.
