Weekly Ionia Standard - Friday, Oct. 7, 1892

Saranac Local: A.C. Smith died in the township of Keene, Friday morning of 
last week at the advanced age of 85 years. Mr. Smith was one of the original 
settlers of the county, and was the first county surveyor. He was post  master 
in Ionia when the town was hardly a hamlet, and was for many years a resident 
of the township of Keene. He was a men that was above the average in mental 
ability and coupled with this he was possessed of a sterling integrity, which 
gave him an honorable reputation and many warm friends, many of whom have 
preceded him to the other side. The funeral was held in Easton, Sunday  
morning. Rev. Geo. A. Wain preaching the sermon.
