The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, March 24, 1938
Arthur Philo Smith, a life-long resident of Ionia county, died at his home 
near Woodard Lake Thursday morning, March 24, at 2 o’clock, after an illness 
of a few months.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gorham Smith, born in 
Ronald township June 23, 1860.  He was married to Miss Anna Mary Worden March 
13, 1883 in Ionia county.  Mrs. Smith died in 1926.  He was a director of the 
Woodard Lake school for 20 years.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Florence Hoppough of Lake Geneva, 
Wisconsin; Mrs. Bernice Warden of Ionia and Mrs. Hazel Higbee of Ronald 
township; a son, Arthur Phil Smith, Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren 
and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Stone funeral home at 151 East 
Washington street Sunday afternoon, March 27, at 2:30 o’clock with interment 
at Woodard Lake cemetery.  The Rev. Paul L. Stewart will officiate.
