Although she had not been in very good health, her death was a great shock. Deceased, whose maiden name was Charlotte Isabelle Mitchell, was born September 20th, 1847 in New Hampshire and when seven years of age moved with her parents to this vicinity where she has spent the greater part of her life. On September 17, 1867 she was married to Daniel Smith and to this union was born the following children: Charles Tamplin, Nathanel Gardner, Eri Burr, Peter Hickman, Electa L., Melissa Ann, James Wilson and Lottie E. She is preceded to her home above by her husband who died at their home in Arkansas, February 1885, and her son James who died February 26, 1898, aged 17 years and seven months. After her husband’s death she with her family moved back to this country where she worked and raised her children until they were grown up. Besides her children she leaves 17 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn. The memory of “Lottie” Smith in every way a good one and no woman will be missed more from the community. She was kind and charitable and will be remembered as a true mother and friend. She was converted at the age of sixteen and in later years united with the Baptist church at Palo, and was a very active member of the Quarter Line church where she attended. Funeral services were held from the Quarter Line church Wednesday, June 30, Rev. George Brown of Sheridan officiating. Interment was made in the Palo cemetery.
