Smith, for years a teacher of piano in Ionia, died at the home of his cousin, Mrs. J. L. Clark, Hutchinson, Kan., Saturday. The funeral services will be held in the Ionia Church of Christ and it is understood that the burial will be in the Orleans cemetery. The announcement of the funeral plans will be made after the funeral party arrive at Chicago. Mr. Smith can be reckoned among the pioneers of the city. He was born here nearly 69 years ago and lived here until he and Mrs. Smith were forced to leave the little home on Lafayette street because of ill health. He received his early education for his profession from the Ionia music teachers, and later graduated form a Chicago conservatory. Probably more persons learned their first touch of the piano from Mr. Smith in the little music room at his home than from any other music teacher that has been in Ionia. Prof. Frederick B. Stiven was one of his pupils. Both Mr. and Mrs. Smith were closely allied with Ionia church life, especially that of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Smith died at the home of a niece near Gregory in May 1927. Mr. Smith leaves one brother, Frank, of Chicago.
