She had been ill in bed since a year ago last March. She was born in Elk Rapids, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Essick, pioneers from the eastern states, August 27, 1875. She was married December 25, 1892 to William H. Smith at Vickeryville by Rev. Wilcox of Sheridan. Last Christmas they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to Ionia from Alpena where they lived for 15 years and where he worked as a bus and taxi driver. In 1913 they came to Ionia and had lived in and around here since then. Survivors are her husband, William; two sons, Earl J. of North Dakota, and William of Battle Creek; one grandchild, Mrs. Iva Hayes; one sister, Mrs. Cora Warren of east of Ionia; and two brothers, George and Louis Essick of Ionia. Funeral services will be held from the Myers funeral home on East Main street on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.
