The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, February 14, 1972
Gilbert Smith, 69, known in Lyons as Gilbert Halsted, died Sunday morning at a 
Pontiac convalescent home where he had been since Wednesday.  He has been 
frequently hospitalized due to a stroke three years ago.

Born in Grand Rapids, July 15, 1902, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome 
Smith.  When a small child he came to Lyons and made his home with his great 
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Halsted.  He was a graduate of Lyons high 
school and life member of Lyons lodge F&AM.

Surviving are his wife, Blanche; sister, Mrs. Clare Galloway of North State 
road, Ionia. 

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Lovend funeral home at 5391 
Highland road, Pontiac.  Interment will be at Pontiac.
