Leonard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith who reside on the Frank Pryer farm and left here in April to accept a position on the ranch of Chas. Beard, in South Dakota. Several days before the operation he complained of a pain in his ear which rapidly grew worse and he was taken a distance of 60 miles, to the town of Murcheson, where the nearest doctor was located. From there he was taken to Deadwood where it was discovered he was suffering from a mastoid abscess. Failing to recover from the operation he passed away Sunday afternoon. Besides the parents he is survived by one brother and one sister, Elmer and Bessie, both at home. Word was received this morning that the remains would arrive in Portland Friday evening and the funeral will be held from the Methodist church, Saturday afternoon at two o’clock, in charge of Rev.
