Mrs. Gertrude R. Smith, 69, of 528 Earle, Belding died early Monday evening at 
Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids after an illness of eight months.  She 
was born February 4, 1898 in Homer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. 
Peters.  September 1, 1929 she was married to Clayton M. Smith in Port Huron 
and he survives.

Before retirement she was a teacher at Ellis school in Belding, member of 
Greens corners Baptist church and Michigan Education association.

Besides her husband she leaves tow daughters, Mrs. Craig Baird of Port Huron, 
Mrs. Donald Francoeur of Plymouth; two sons, Clayton M. of Mt. Clemens and 
Levant E. of Lansing; eight grandchildren.

Funereal services will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Green Corners Baptist 
church with Rev. Gene Sickler officiating.  Further services and burial will 
be conducted Friday in Port Huron.  Family will be at Fitzjohn Courser funeral 
home in Belding Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  A memorial has 
been established for the American Cancer Society.
