W. Krainbrink, 269 East Washington Street, following a long illness. She was 75 years old. Born in England, Mrs. Smitherman was brought to Michigan when her parents immigrated here when she was one year old. They settled in Clinton County and were among the pioneer residents of that section. At the age of 23, Mrs. Smitherman was married to Harry Smitherman, at DuPlain, near Ovid, and began housekeeping at Livonia, Wayne County. After living there several years, the couple moved to Plymouth, and 11 years ago came to Ionia to make their home near that of their daughter, Mrs. E. W. Krainbrink. Two years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband and daughter in Ionia, Mrs. Smitherman, leaves a son, William Smitherman, of Detroit, and two granddaughters, Miss Dorothy Krainbrink, of Ionia, and Miss Hazel Smitherman, of Detroit. The funeral services were held from the home at 1 o’clock Tuesday and from the Baptist church at 2 o’clock were conducted by Rev. F. J. Fitch. Burial was in Ovid cemetery.
