Ionia County News – Thursday, 14 February 1935

Mrs. Carrie Minerva Smoot died at her home in Keene Township, Friday morning 
at 9 o’clock.  She had been ill for three years and in bed the past 10 
months.  Mrs. Smoot was born in Ionia Township in 1870, the daughter of Mr. 
and Mrs. Stephen Brooks.  Her early life was spent in and about Ionia.  In 
November, 1915 she married Louis Smoot.  They lived in Ionia until about six 
years ago when they purchased a farm about three miles north of Saranac, which 
has since been their home.  Besides her husband she leaves one brother, Harry 
Brooks, of Ionia Township.  The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at two 
o’clock at the Stone Funeral Home in Ionia and burial was in Highland Park 
Cemetery.
