Richard G. Snell, 49, Ionia-Montcalm county insurance agent 15 years, died 
unexpectedly at his home at 209 Lovell street, Wednesday night.  He was born 
in Ionia, June 12, 1913, and had spent most of his life in the vicinity.  He 
was the son of Walter and Minie B. Hoskin Snell.

He attended Ionia public schools and was graduated from Ionia high school.  He 
was an accomplished saxophone player and a member of the high school musical 
groups including the orchestra, band, and later played with a local dance 
orchestra.  He was one of the early members of the Ionia Boy Scout band.

He had been ill several years suffering with a heart condition.  

Mr. Snell was connected for a time with Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance 
company in Chicago prior to his enlistment in United States Air Force in 
1940.  He enlisted as a master sergeant and spent 26 months in the CBI theater.

He was married to Signora Linbeck, December 20, 1941 in Texas, and had been an 
agent for Hardware Mutual Insurance in Ionia and Montcalm county since 1947.  
He had resided at the present residence since 1948.  Mr. Snell was a member of 
Fist Methodist church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks lodge 548. 

He is survived by his wife, Signora; two sons, John Richard 16, and David 
Walter 15; and his mother, Mrs. Minnie B. Snell who resides with the family.

Funeral service will be at First Methodist church Saturday at 11 a.m. with the 
Rev. Harold A. Jayne officiating.  Burial will be at Balcom cemetery.  The 
body will be at the Boynton funeral home until Saturday morning.  The family 
will be at the funeral home Friday from 3 until 5 and 7 until 10 p.m.
