Dec. 1, 1932 DROWNED AT HOOVER DAM Mrs. Towner’s Brother Caught in Midstream On a Sinking Raft. Word has been received here that the search for the body for Carl E. Soderstrom, bother of Mrs. Charles Towner, of Portland, drowned at the Hoover dam site in Nevada, has been given up, though the body may be recovered later. It appears that Soderstrom was one of three men who were working on a raft near the middle of the Colorado river, when the raft sank. Two of the men were drowned on the spit, but Soderstrom struck out for shore and was within a few feet of it when he, too, went down. The river was dragged, but without success and last week the report came the search had been abandoned. Mrs. Towner left Portland Wednesday for Glendale, Nev., a town about 70 miles from the dam, where her brother’s five-year-old daughter was being cared for while he was working. She expected to remain until some sort of settlement was agreed upon and then bring her niece to Portland.
