Soles, died at her home on the west side in this village on Friday afternoon last, aged nearly 71 years. Hester Ann Davids was born in Stuben county, N. Y. December 12, 1828. Her parents moved from there to Jackson county in 1838 and came to Danby in 1841. The following winter the subject of this sketch taught the first term of school ever held at Compton’s corners and taught several terms after that. She was married to David S. Soles July 23 1847. They came immediately to Portland and where she had resided ever since, her husband having died five years ago. She leaves three children – Sarah A. Haskins of Edmore, Byron of Portland and Lizzie Dravenstatt of Eagle – and four brothers and three sisters to mourn her death. Mrs. Soles was a Presbyterian in religious belief, but had been identified with the Congregational society for many years. Funeral services wer conducted from the Congregational church on Sunday afternoon last. Rev. Millard, in the absence of Rev. Terborgh officiating.
