Y., December 8, 1842 and passed away March 2, 1914, aged 71 years, 2 months, 22 days. She was married to J. J. Somers of Hornelsville, Stueben County, Feb. 21, 1861, where they resided eight years, coming to Michigan in 1869. They settled in southwest Ronald, Ionia County, where they made their home for 24 years. After one year spent in California they returned to Michigan settling in Montcalm County near Vickeryville, until 1906 when they moved to Palo where they have since resided. Here she was separated from her companion who preceded her to the other world less than a year ago, March 23, Easter Sunday, 1913, after a wedded life of more than 52 years. She leaves to mourn her departure five children: Mrs. C. B. Graves of Ronald; F. L. Somers of Pomona, Cal., Mrs. Frank Young of Vickeryville; W. H. Somers of Detroit and Mrs. C. C. Ross of Los Angeles, Cal. One sister, Mrs. M. E. Brayton of Howell, Mich., other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the house Thursday morning, March 5 at 11 o’clock, conducted by Pastor I. B. Buffum, after which she was laid to rest in Palo cemetery. Friday, March 6, 1914: Mrs. Jas. M. Somers of Palo died at five o’clock Monday afternoon after an illness of about two years. She was 71 years old. Her husband died March 23 last year. Her daughters, Mrs. C. B. Graves of Ronald and Mrs. Young of Vickeryville, a son, Will Somers of Detroit, and her sister, Mrs. Jones, were with her at the time of death. Another daughter and son live in California – Mrs. Ross at Los Angeles and Fred Somers at Palm Beach. The funeral was held at the home at eleven o’clock Thursday. Burial was in the Palo Cemetery.
