Curtis E. "Sarge" Sousa, 83, of Greenville, formerly of Ionia and Coral, passed 
away early Friday, May 25, 2012 in Greenville.

A World War II veteran of both the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army, Curtis later 
attained the rank of Sergeant First Class during his career with the Michigan 
National Guard.

He had worked as a cook at the Michigan Reformatory and later as a chef at area 
country clubs, as well as a security guard at the former Gibson Refrigerator 
Company.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Betty J. Sousa; and his two sons, Doug 
Sousa of Ionia and Keith (Mary) Sousa of Taylor.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 
Greenville Community Church, 6596 S. Vining Road, Greenville, with military 
honors rendered by the U.S. Army. Burial, with Masonic committal rites, will 
take place privately at Coral Cemetery.
