Rites Today for Gary Southerland

Gary Lee Souther land, 22, was dead on arrival at Blodgett Memorial Hospital, 
grand Rapids, following a car-train accident east of Lake Odessa, Monday 
afternoon.

He was born in Jellico, Tenn., July 20, 1950, the son of Roy Lee and Edna Ruth 
(Logan) Southerland and had spent most of is life in the local area.

He attended the Lakewood school and enlisted in the U.S. marines March 22, 1968, 
and was stationed at DaNang, Vietnam during his year overseas. He was discharged 
from great Lakes, Ill., May 20, 1970.

Gary married Glenna Sweet of Hastings on December 20, 1960. He was employed as a 
press operator by the Diamond Reo Company, Lansing.

Surviving are his wife; a two-year-old son Arlo Guy; his mother Mrs.edna 
Southerland; father roy of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three sisters Rejeni, Terry 
Lynn and Tina Marie all at home.

Gary reposes at the Pickens Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, where funeral service 
will be h eld Thursday (today) at 1:30 with burial in the Lakeside cemetery. 
Rev.James Leasure of Lakewood Baptist Church will officiate.
