David Spalding, a well-known and respected pioneer resident of Danby township, passed away at his home Tuesday morning. Death resulting from an attack of apoplexy that occurred about a year ago. Funeral services will be held from the late home Friday afternoon at 1:30 Central Standard time, Rev. J. H. Bancroft, officiating. Burial will be made in Portland cemetery. Mr. Spalding was born in Deerfield township, Livingston county, October 9, 1844, and lived in that vicinity until the time of the Civil war when he enlisted in the 22nd Michigan Infantry, Co. E., and served for three years. After the war he returned to Michigan settling in Danby township in the year of 1865, where he remained until his death. On December, 3, 1868, he was married to Miss Mary A Stone, a resident of Danby township. Besides the widow he is survived by five children, Charles Spalding, of Lynn, Montana; Clare and Harry Spalding, of Portland; Mrs. L. T. Grandy, of Detroit; Mrs. Mae L. Martin, at home. There are also five brothers and two sisters surviving: Simmon? Spalding, of Fenton, Clarence Spalding of Sadler, Texas, Adelbert Spalding of Atwater, Calif.; Alfred Spalding, of Chicago; Miss Laura Spalding, of Fenton; Miss Lida Spalding, of Portland.
