At her last weighing she tipped the beam at 440 pounds. It was with difficulty that she got about and Portland people, where she traded mostly, though they may not have known the woman’s name, will recall having seen her in a low phaeton, usually pulled by a mule. Fatty degeneration of the heart brought about her demise, after an illness of four weeks. She was a daughter of the late Lafayette McCrumb, and leaves a husband, but no children. Undertaker Stokes of Grand Ledge found it necessary to have a casket made for this especial case and the dimentions were 34 inches across the top, 26 inches across the bottom, with a depth of 23 inches. This could not be taken through the door of the Spangler home and a large window was removed. Through this the empty casket was taken into the house and through it came the body as the six bearers conveyed it to the waiting hearse. Funeral services were held at Compton church Saturday and burial was in Danby cemetery.
