Ionia County News, 5 Jul 1962

Gary Charles Spangler, 6 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Spangler, of 
Fielding St., Flint, was a victim of drowning on Saturday forenoon at Marion.

Gary was last seen by his parents about 10:00 a.m. when he left on his bicycle, 
supposedly to go to a playmate’s house.  Instead, he went to the park in Marion 
and in some way fell into the pool.  His body was recovered at 10:30 a.m. but 
efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.  Mrs. Spangler and Gary had been up 
there for a week and Mr. Spangler joined them on the week end.  They were 
staying at a hotel and are building a new home in Marion.  Gary was born July 
23, 1955, attended school in Flint and also attended the Jesus Christ Church of 
Latter Day Saints.

Funeral services, in charge of the Shaw-Rivett funeral home, in Muir, will be 
held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Lyons Methodist church.  Gary will be at 
the funeral home until 12:00 noon, Tuesday.  Burial will be in the Lyons 
cemetery.
