Ionia Daily Sentinel, 11 Jan 1958

Royal H. Sparks, 87, Spanish American War veteran, formerly of Ionia county and
a member of Co. I of the 34th Michigan Infantry, that left Ionia in April of
1898 for Cuba, died Thursday at Veteran’s hospital in Saginaw.  He was a member
of Captain Frank D. Curtis Camp, Ionia.  Funeral service for Mr. Sparks will be
conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the McDowell funeral home in Reed city.  Burial
will be in Maple Hill cemetery.
