Ionia Sentine-Standard - Tues. Dec. 29, 1987

BELDING- Alden N. Sparks, 74, of 8730 Richmond Road, Saranac, died Monday at 
Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born in Keene Township on Jan. 
16, 1913, the son of Floyd and Wilma (Hull) Sparks. He was a lifetime farmer in 
Keene Township.

He was married to Esther Monroe in 1938. She preceded him in death in 1942. He 
was married to Pauline Shindorf on Nov. 27, 1943. He was active in the Holy 
Name Men of the St. Mary’s Church, Miriam.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; two sons; Robert Sparks of Carlsbad, N.M., 
and Clarence Sparks of Belding; two daughters, Gayla Haines of Belding and 
Linda Smith of Wyoming, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; 
one brother, Stephen Sparks of Saranac, and one sister, Evelyn Geiger of 
Belding. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife and by two grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic 
Church, Miriam, with the Rev. Eugene Alvesteffer officiating. 

Burial will be in Marble Cemetery in Keene Township.

Rosary service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, 
with Deacon Howard Scheid officiating.

The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m.
