Collene Faye Sparks, 56, of rural Belding, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2004 
at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids.  She was born February 25, 
1948 in North Dakota, the daughter of Forest and Elva Willer Young.  Colleen 
graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1966 and was a member of 
St. Mary Catholic Church.  She served on the patient advisory council for the 
Ionia County mental health program.  Colleen was a loving wife, mother and 
grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.  On 
April 14, 1966 she married Clarence Sparks at St. Mary Catholic Church, 
Miriam.  

Colleen was preceded in death by her father; two younger siblings in infancy; 
and best friend and cousin, Cheryl Lester.  She is survived by her husband, 
Clarence Sparks; their children, Sherri and Dale Nichoson of Belding, Amy and 
Timothy DeBerg of Stanton; grandchildren, Kylie, Dylan, Skylar, Tad, Tori; 
mother, Elva Young of Belding; sisters and brother, Sheila Young and special 
friend Ron Mathis of Ionia, Gail Swan of Riverdale, Karan Young of Belding, 
Forrest and Lori Young of Lowell; many nieces and nephews; and dear family 
friend Lisa Bovard.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary 
Catholic Church, with Father CK officiating.  Interment is in St. Mary 
Cemetery.  Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary 
prayed at 8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.  In lieu of 
flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or a charity of 
one’s choice.
