Sparks, aged 88 years, and wife of Stephen Sparks, Friday night at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Slayton, at their farm west of Smyrna. Mr. and Mrs. Sparks had been residents of Grand Rapids for many years and only recently came to live with their children on the farm. Mrs. Sparks was a native of Otisco township and was born on March 7, 1860. Her parents were Seymour and Phoebe Purdy, early day residents of Otisco. She was married to Stephen Sparks on January 13, 1885, in Grand Rapids, and the couple had spent more than 62 years together. Surviving are the husband and daughter, and a son, Everett Sparks of Grand Rapids; a brother, Denzel Purdy of Wapetun, N.D. and six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Fitzjohn Funeral Home with Rev. Gustave Ferre, pastor of the Baptist church officiating and burial was in the cemetery at Smyrna. Pallbearers were Clayton Moon, John Nash, Earl Nash, Milton Barnes, Anson Sparks and Leonard Sparks.
