The death of Erastus Sparks, 68 year old local resident, took place at the old 
Sparks family home, on Charles street, early Saturday morning and followed an 
illness which started on July 8th, at which time he was stricken with a heart 
attack and from which he never recovered.

Mr. Sparks was born in Keene township, south of the city, 68 years ago and was 
the son of the late Alpheus and Wealthy Sparks, who brought their family to 
this city 47 years ago and took up their residence on Charles street, with the 
family home always having been maintained there ever since.  Mr. Sparks was of 
a quiet and unassuming nature and was a good friend and citizen of high type, 
whose friends were legion n this community.

For more than 25 years he was steadily employed at the Belding Basket Company 
plant, but for the past ten years he has been associated with a younger 
brother, Clarence, in the latter’s restaurant business in this city.  Mr. 
Sparks was never married.

Surviving are a sister, Miss Lena Sparks, living at the old home, a brother, 
Bert, of Hines, Oregon and Clarence Sparks, of this city.

Funeral services were held at the old home, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, 
with Bruce G. Fales in charge and with Rev. H. S. Ellis officiating.  Clayton 
Knapp and Mrs. Luther M. Berry sang.  Pallbearers were Vern Scott, Dell Scott, 
Robert Sparks and Floyd Sparks, of Keene township and Charles Sparks and Eddie 
Sparks, of Saranac.  Burial was in River Ridge cemetery.
