Stephen B. Sparks, 91, passed away Saturday afternoon at the home of his son-in-
law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Slayton, west of Smyrna, where he had been 
ill for several months.  

He was born in Keene township, July 1, 1858, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William 
Sparks.  He was a farmer during his earlier life but had lived in Grand Rapids 
40 years where he was a painter and decorator.  Since the death of his wife two 
years ago he had made his home with the Slaytons.

Survivors include the daughter and a son, Everett, of Grand Rapids; seven 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at two o’clock from Fitzjohn’s funeral home 
and burial was in Smyrna cemetery.  Rev. William Harrington, pastor of Ashley 
Baptist church, officiated.
