Wm. Sparks, aged 79, well known resident of the Smoky Row district for many years and later on of his city, passed away at about 3 o’clock on Thursday morning of last week, following a long period of ill health and which had terminated by a several weeks illness, immediately preceding his death. His illness and death were caused by the infirmities of old age. Mr. Sparks was a well known and highly respected man. Many years ago he lived in this city, occupying the residence on Charles street, where his death occurred. After a time he went out to live on the farm south of this city and there, with his daughter, Mrs. Chattie Crozier, who was devoted to him in every way, he lived until about two years ago when they again returned to this city. Funeral services were held from the residence Sunday afternoon at one o’clock, Rev. H. S. Ellis officiating and burial was in Smyrna cemetery, by the side of his wife, who passed away a number of years ago. a large concourse of people, relatives and friends of the deceased, attended the obsequies and paid their last mark of honor and respect.
