Belding Banner, 4 Feb 1909

Passed through the gates eternal, Mrs. William Sparks, Friday, Jan. 29, at the 
age of 61 years, 9 months, 24 days.

Harriet Kilborn was born April 5, 1847, in the pioneer home built by her 
parents on the farm where her death occurred.  In 1865-66 she taught school in 
the township of Keene.  On July 21, 1867, she was united in marriage to William 
Sparks of Keene township, where they lived for the following thirteen years.  
During the intervening years they have made their home in Greenville, Coral, 
Belding and Keene, until April 1, 1908, when they were called to reside with 
and care for her aged father in his declining years.  But fate has decreed 
otherwise.

To this union three children were born:  Freeman, of Lowell; Melvin, of 
Belding, and Mrs. Chattie Crozier, who for a number of years has been 
privileged to care for and comfort her aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman 
Kilborn.  Others surviving besides the children are six grandchildren, husband, 
father, brother and a large circle of other relatives and friends who feel 
deeply the loss of a mother, daughter, wife, sister and friend.

The funeral was held at their farm home three miles south of Belding Tuesday, 
Feb. 2, at 11 o’clock a.m., Foster & Ritter taking charge of the remains, and 
Rev. W. P. Manning of Holland officiating.  Mrs. J. E. Ferguson of Belding sang 
some very appropriate selections with her niece, Miss Eula Savage, presiding at 
the organ.  Those in attendance from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey 
Sparks and Mrs. A. C. Sherman of Grand Rapids and Peter D. Sparks of Lansing.  
Interment in the Smyrna cemetery.
