While Mr. Sparks had been in failing health for the past year or so he had been up and around and quite active the greater part of the time and his death came as a surprise to many of his friends who had not heard of his illness of the few days immediately prior to his death. Mr. Sparks was born in Keene township on November 12, 1847. He lived there until his marriage on July 31, 1870 to Miss Weltha Hull, in Keene and until 1885 when they moved form this vicinity to Coral where they resided until 1892 when they came to Belding and have resided here ever since. Mr. Sparks is survived by his widow, three sons, Erastus and Clarence, of Belding and Bert, of Virginia, Minn.; also two daughters, Mrs. Frank Gamber of this city and Miss Lena Sparks, of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services were held from the M. E. church in this city this afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Geo. E. Osborne officiating and burial was in River Ridge cemetery. Mr. Sparks affiliated with the Methodist church 48 years ago in the old Tasker school and had always remained a member of that faith.
