                             C.GLADYS SPAULDING

LAKE ODESSA - C.Gladys Spaulding, 85, of Warren, and formerly of Lansing and 
Lake Odessa, died Friday, Sept. 5 at the Nightingale Nursing Home, Warren.

Born in Woodland April 17, 1901, she was the daughter of Jesse and Christina 
Beardsley Miller. She was graduated from Lake Odessa High School, earned a 
bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, and a Master's of Social 
work from the University of Michigan. 

She taught several rural schools in Barry and Eaton Counties and also worked as 
a psychiatric social worker at Kalamazoo State Hospital. For 36 years she was 
associated with Family Service Agency in Lansing, 18 of those years as executive 
director.

She was past president of theMichigan Association of family Agencies; a member 
of the Midwestern Regional Commission of Family Service Associations of America;
was past president of American Association of Social Workers; a member of Zonta; 
and a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church of Lansing,

She is survived by her husband Rupert; a daughter Mrs.Paul (Judy) Thorne; two 
grandsons; two brothers, Russel Miller of Fall Church, VA. and Ernest Miller of 
Engadien; and a sister, Nettie Curtis of Lake Odessa.

Funeral services were to have been held at 10 a.m. Monday from the Koops Funeral 
Chapel,Lake Odessa, with the Rev. Charles Richards officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

A memorial in care of the funeral chapel has been established for Alzheimer's 
and Related Disorders Association.
