Ionia Standard, 27 Jan 1876

We learn just as we go to press that Mr. Perry Spaulding, living in the township
of Ionia, 8 miles north-east of this city, committed suicide last evening by
hanging himself.  Mr. Spaulding was a well-to-do farmer and one of the most
respected citizens of Ionia county, and was in the very prime of life.  He
became seriously involved financially through building and on Tuesday made an
assignment.  The prospect of losing his hard earned property so preyed on his
mind that it led to the rash act of taking his own life.
