Aug. 2, 1948 Louis A. Speckin, 85, who served as alderman of the third ward in Ionia city for 22 years, died Sunday afternoon about 12:30 o’clock at his home at 659 North Jackson street. He was born in Keyendorf, Anklom, Germany, August 28, 1862. He came to America in 1881, and married the former Caroline Unger in 1885. She died April 23, 1928. He started to work as a carpenter for the D.L. and N. railroad in 1882, and was later promoted to wrecking foreman. He held this position for 40 years, being retired with a pension in 1937. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church and was active in church work. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. E.E. Schaffer, of Saginaw; 12 nephews and 7 nieces. Services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at his home, 659 North Jackson street, with interment in Highland Park cemetery. The Rev. George Nieman of Woodland, pastor of the Ionia St. Paul’s Lutheran church, will officiate. Thursday, August 5, 1948 Services for Louis A. Speckin, 85, who died at his Ionia home, 659 North Jackson street, Sunday afternoon were held from the place of his death Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Rev. Leo P. Heintz of Detroit, former pastor of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Ionia, officiated with interment in the family lot, Highland Park cemetery. His bearers were William K. Speckin, Leonard Speckin, Fred Redemsky,, Erwin Redemsky, Peter Schneider and Ewald Schaffer. Attending his services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schaffer, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schneider and son and Miss Ethel Speckin of Saginaw; Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Schaffer and daughter of Birmingham; Mr. ad Mrs. Brandle and son of Big Rapids; Mrs. Clara Speckin and Mr. and Mrs. William Speckin and daughter of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Redemsky, Mr. Alfred Vermilyea, Fred J. Speckin, Hilbert Speckin, Henry Speckin, Mrs. Alex Nelson and Mrs. F. Schelhamer of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Redemsky of Horsehead Lake; Mrs. F, Richter of Manchester, Conn.; the Rev. George Nieman of Woodland; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ammon of Flint; Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Lindholm of Detroit; Dr. and Mrs. R.S. Sykes of Muir; Lawrence Jensen of Sheridan; Mrs. Gertrude McMeen of Detroit and Edmund Meier, Ella Meier and Alma Meier of Owosso.
