Speckin, 65, 617 North Jackson street, died Sunday at 10 p.m. at Edward Sparrow hospital in Lansing, where he had been a patient six days. Mr. Speckin had been ill three weeks. He was born April 5, 1893 in Ionia, the son of John and Mary Speckin. He attended St. John Lutheran school and made his home in Ionia all his life. In his earlier years, Mr. Speckin w as a pattern maker at the P.M. car shops in Ionia. He was owner and operator of Speckin’s Body shop on North Jackson street for 32 years, until his retirement April 1, 1957. He was married July 2, 1947 in Grand Ledge to the former Ida Thwaites of Ionia. An ardent sportsman, Mr. Speckin took part in his hobbies of hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran church, B.P.O. Elks of Ionia, and the Hunting and Fishing club and an ardent Democrat, having served Ionia City as an alderman. Surviving besides his wife, Ida, are two brothers, Fred of Lansing and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Phelps funeral chapel. The Rev. Ronald F. Fuller, pastor of the Holy Cross Lutheran church, will officiate. Interment is to be at the family lot, Highland park cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran church building fund in memory of Mr. Speckin.
