Speer, 51, of Portland, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999. He was born Sept. 11, 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of Eugene and Eugenia (Kasper) Speer. Mr. Speer served with the U.S. Army in the Vietnam Conflict. He retired in 1999 after 30 years of faithful service at GM of Lansing. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #652. Surviving are two daughters, Angie M. (Gary) Groeneweg of Lowell, and Rebecca L. (Charles) Marshall of Ionia; one son, Earl E. Speer II of Portland; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Darlene. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Neller Chapel, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland, with the Rev. Wesley B. Emerson officiating. Interment will follow in Portland Cemetery with military grave side services provided by the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
