Marietta Wood was born in Utica, N.Y., February 28, 1849, and came to Michigan in 1865. In July, 1866, she was united in marriage to Leroy Spencer and for the past 47 years they have made their home in Lyons. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her loss two children by adoption, Mrs. H.W. Powell of Charlotte, and Jay Curtis of Lansing. There are also three nephews and four nieces – Delbert Vincent, Edward Wedge, Birdie Wedge and Francis Moloklofsky of Ionia; Charles Vincent of Pontiac; Mrs. Loretta Pelton of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Jennie Foreman of Portland. In her death the community loses a good neighbor and a generous friend to all. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the local M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. Chas. Nease. Music was furnished by Mesdames Eugene Vance and J.E. Wolford, with Mrs. C.H. Randall at the piano. Interment was made in the Lyons cemetery.
