Spencer, 83, wife of the late Rev. Willard K. Spencer, died Thursday afternoon, September 30, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. H. A. Simpson after an illness of many years. Mrs. Spencer was the daughter of George and Susan Harrison and was born May 4, 1854, at Palmyra, New York. She was married to Rev. Spencer, December 24, 1879, and the same year came with her husband to Lansing where Dr. Spencer was called to the parsonage of the Presbyterian church. Although for many years she was an invalid and unable to engage in many church activities she maintained a deep interest in her husband’s church problems and through studies and conferences was fully informed regarding her church’s wide missionary enterprises. Through her life she was a believer in the “divided Lord’s portion” and one-tenth of her income was set aside for religious use. For many years she was a shut-in from the active world, but her active mind and cheerful spirit enabled her to share what she would call the “good world” and made her an inspiration to all who knew her. Survivors are her brother, Rev. R. Harrison of Palmyra, New York; three nieces, Mrs. Sarah Lines, of Palmyra, New York, Mrs. Susan R. Harrison of New York, Mrs. Grace A. Pitner of Montana; two nephews, Lyman Harrison and Henry Harrison of Palmyra, New York, and a cousin, Mrs. Harriett Peer, Ithaca, New York. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. A J. Westmaas, pastor of the Presbyterian church from the Myers funeral home Saturday, October 2, at 2:30 p.m. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/s/spencer18659nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
