Dec. 10, 1918 TAUGHT SCHOOL MANY TERMS Mrs. T.J. Spencer Was Also a Lifelong Resident of Portland Mrs. T.J. Spencer, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died at her home on the west side Monday afternoon, after a long illness. Funeral services were held at the house Wednesday afternoon, Rev. R.S. MacGregor, of the M.E. church, officiating. Burial was in Portland. Mrs. Spencer’s maiden name was Sarah Miller. She was born at West Unity, O., April 28, 1850. She was a daughter of Alexander Miller, who first moved to DeWitt, and a little later to Portland, locating near the Howell schoolhouse. For several years deceased taught school, first I n the country, and during Miss Engle’s superintendency, in the village schools. She married James P. Robinson in 1895. Mr. Robinson’s two daughters, Mrs. E. Spencer, of Danby and Mrs. Wm. Green, of Olivet, have given her the same love and affection that would have been accorded their own mother. Her marriage to Rev. T.J. Spencer took place in December, 1889. Rev. Spencer died in March, 1905. Mrs. Spencer is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jane Hutchison, of Portland. The late Wm. T. Smith was brother.
