Spencer, 66, of 437 Jones street, died Monday night at Ionia County Memorial hospital. He was born April 4, 1901 in Traymouth township, Saginaw county, the son of Henry H. Spencer and Estella P. Morse Spencer. Upon graduation from Bliss Egler business college he was associated with People’s Savings bank and People’s American bank in Saginaw. April 16, 1966 he retired as assistant vice president of Ionia County National bank where he had been employed since 1943. He was a life member of Ionia Lodge F&AM, also Ionia chapter R.A.M., Ionia Commandery Knights Templar and Queen Esther chapter OES of Ionia, Saladin Temple AAONMS of Grand Rapids, Kiwanis club and Elks lodge. He was also past president and for 19 years was treasurer of Ionia Hunting and Fishing club and member of First Presbyterian church. He is survived by his wife, Ida R. Spencer; one daughter Mrs. James Greve of Flint; one son, Robert W. Spencer of St. Johns; five grandchildren; one sister Mrs. E. Chishalm of Birch Run; one brother Kenneth Spencer of Saginaw. Services will be a Thursday at 2 p.m. at Myers funeral home with Rev. Lester Bailey officiating and burial in Highland Park cemetery. A memorial is being established for new addition to First Presbyterian church.
