Spencer, died Friday morning at a quarter past eight o’clock. She was born in Nova Scotia August to 25, 1810, and was in her 88th year, having come to Detroit in 1830 when Michigan was a territory and has seen the wonderful changes that have taken place in the last half century. She married Thos. Spencer and in 1832 they lived in Jackson remaining about ten years, then moved to near Ada and has been a resident of the Flat river valley over fifty years. Mr. Spencer was killed in a saw mill accident at Russell’s mills near Langston 31 years ago since which time she has made her home with the children. She was a member of the Baptist church and a woman of excellent deeds and kindly ministrations, retaining her mental faculties in a marked degree for one who has trod life’s pathway so long. She died at the home of her daughter in this city, Mrs. Wm. Wood, and the funeral service was held at the home of her son, Fred L. Spencer, Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rev. D.E. Hills of Greenville an old friend of the family officiated and preached a fine sermon. The deceased leaves three sons and two daughters, Chas. D. Spencer, of Centralia, Washington, Fred L. Spencer, of Belding, David H. Spencer, of Grand Rapids, Mary J. Wood, of Belding; and Susan E. Vest, of Oregon. Her remains rest in River Ridge cemetery.
