Sept. 18, 2012 Elwood T. Spencer, 81, of Orleans passed away Sept. 16, 2012 in Orleans. He was born Nov. 23, 1930 in Belding the son of Thomas and Lillian (McConnel) Elwood married Gloria Cottrell Aug. 4, 1951 in Ionia. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from the State of Michigan after 30 years as a Food Service Supervisor and was a volunteer Firefighter for Orleans. Elwood was a member of Sheridan V.F.W. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his camping group, The Restless Ones. Elwood is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gloria Spencer of Orleans; children, Roxanne (David) Stiles of Ionia, Thomas Spencer and friend of South Bend and Gary (Gail) Spencer of Ionia; sister, Florence Hall of Belding; grandchildren, Chad (Kathleen) Stiles, Jodi (Tony) Hagen, Ashley Spencer and Brent Spencer; and five great grandchildren, Karson and Kayla Hagen, Morgan and Payton Stiles and Landon. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Pauline Rhodes. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Shiloh Community Church with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home of Ionia.
