Mrs. Sarah Cornell Spencer died very suddenly at the home of Mrs. Marcia Rickey, in Orleans, Sunday morning. She was born in Madison Co., N.Y., June 15, 1821, and was within three days of her 77th birthday. She came to Ionia with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cornell, Sr., Sr., in the fall of 1834 and was therefore one of the oldest settlers in Ionia. But one member of the large family remains, her sister, Mrs. Caroline Hearsey, of this city. She was married to Ezra Spencer, Dec. 19, 1839. For over 20 years they were residents of Saranac. She was a life long member of the Baptist church. Three children survive her: Mrs. Harriet Painter, of Lowell; Mrs. Carrie Mather, of Lake Odessa; and Monroe Spencer, of Muskegon. The funeral will be conducted from the Baptist church in Saranac, on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
