Jack Harold Spencer, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Spencer, 437 Jones street, Ionia, was killed in an airplane crash in Scotland on June 12, according to a telegram from the war department received by the parents last week end. The young hero had completed 32 missions over Germany during the past year and was apparently on his way home when the crash occurred. Lieut. Spencer received his silver wings and a second lieutenant’s commission at Pecos, Texas, on May 23, 1944, and left soon after for active service in England. The dead flyer’s father is cashier of the Ionia County National bank and has been confined to his home for several weeks recovering from a cold so that he might undergo a major operation at Ann Arbor.
