Spitzley, 91, died April 26, 1995. Born May 12, 1903, in Westphalia, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Pung Spitzley. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Society, and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife Vera; daughters Helen (John) Fedewa, and Marian (Allan) Halfman, both of Fowler; sons Donald (Helen) Spitzley, Phillip (Sandra) Spitzley, both of Pewamo, Robert (Elizabeth) of Westphalia, Louis (Ruth) of Pewamo, and Paul (Elaine) Spitzley of Battle Creek; 32 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; step daughters Bernadine Witgen and Dolores (Wayne) Pline, both of Portland; stepson Wiliam (Virginia) Thoma of Fowler; brothers Casper Spitzley of St. Johns and Joseph of Westphalia; sisters Rosaline Spitzley, Lillian Droste, both of Westphalia, and Sister Stella Marie of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his first wife Irene; and two brothers, Alfred and Leon. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, with the Rev. Denis R. Spitzley, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church, Burton, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Pewamo. The family will receive friends at St. Mary’s Chapel, Westphalia, Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and the rosary will be prayed Thursday and Friday at 3 p.m. at 8 p.m. Arrangements by Neller Chapel, Portland.
